Get To Know Emilia

Icon Gold.png

Emilia Romagna is one of Italy’s most prestigious regions for high quality products, and that includes its exquisite cuisine. The region’s capital, Bologna, is nicknamed “La Grassa”, which means The Fat One. This nickname is the result of the gastronomical importance the city has in Italy.

The region has been the catalyst for producing food products like Parmigiano Reggiano, Grana Padano, Parma Ham, Aceto Balsamico di Modena, egg and filled pasta (tortellini being the most popular), and many more. Additionally, Emilia Romagna is home to brands like Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Ducati and people like Giuseppe Verdi, Federico Fellini, Vasco Rossi, Zucchero and Luciano Pavarotti.

Our restaurant, Emilia, is inspired by this region. We are motivated to honour the quest for high quality that this location is associated with. Our icon represents the “Fiore della Vita” or the “Flower of Life”. There are various theories on the meaning of this geometrical shape of perfect form, proportion and harmony.

Although all of them lean to the creation of different forms of life, the one we associate ourselves with most is the representation of the spring flower Narcisio, which is a type of daffodil. The daffodil is renowned to announce the new spring season, hence it historically represents rebirth, regeneration, joy and hope.

The flower of life used to be placed on tiles made of clay and called tigelle (derived from the Latin word for cover). A dough was then baked between the tiles to produce this typical Modenese bread called tigella. As a result the flower was stamped on the bread. As time passed by, the name tigella came to be used for the bread itself. The bread is nowadays filled with a selection of local ingredients.

Whilst we are influenced by the region, we are also very proud of our local ingredients. We aim to give our guests a selection of dishes that are full of flavour, can be served rather quickly and that can transmit the quest for quality that we too are very fond of.

Welcome to Emilia!

We look forward to giving you a joyful and regenerated experience.

Our Menu

Our restaurant does not have a vast menu.

We specifically focus on soups and fresh egg and filled pasta accompanied with a selection of delicious sauces. Nevertheless we aim to give our guests a selection of dishes that are full of flavour, can be served rather quickly and that can transmit the quest for quality that we too are obsessed about.

Promenade

The Sliema–Gżira Promenade stretches for about three kilometers along Malta’s eastern coastline, linking the bustling town of Sliema to the equally vibrant waterfront of Gżira.

Starting near the historic Fort Tigné, the promenade curves gently past the modern skyline of Sliema—characterised by high-rise apartments, boutique hotels and stylish cafés—before edging into Gżira’s more intimate harbourside setting. From here, visitors can look across to see Valletta’s iconic bastions, offering one of the island’s most photographed vistas, especially at sunrise and at dusk.

Along its length, the promenade is lined with a rich variety of amenities catering to every taste. The promenade serves not only as a thoroughfare but as a social hub, especially during the warmer months when locals and tourists alike gather to stroll, cycle, jog or simply watch the world go by.

Public transport is readily accessible: multiple bus routes run parallel to the coast, and taxi stands are frequent—though many prefer the ease of walking. With numerous hotels, guesthouses and serviced apartments just off the promenade, newcomers to the island will find themselves perfectly positioned to explore both the immediate seafront delights and the wider cultural treasures of Malta.
